Occupational Therapist

Once Peter Talty became an occupational therapist, he enjoyed the challenges and rewards of combining clinical practice with that of an educator. His master’s degree in Health Sciences Education prepared him well for the faculty posts he held at several colleges and universities.

Author Peter M Talty

He found the dual simultaneous roles of educator and clinician complementary and rewarding. In the midst of the demands of two career paths, he also added the role of entrepreneur and thus built and managed a successful private practice for ten years known as “OT WORKS.”

Peter, who you can also call an occupational therapist, was always viewed as a “good writer” by his teachers, professors, and clinical supervisors. However, he did not really believe this until he fully immersed himself in learning the craft of writing. The mechanics and art of writing have been an enjoyable and rewarding process of discovery learning.

Seasoned Author

Peter has not yet settled on a preferred genre. He found the research for his two non-fiction books (Occupation as the Key to Change and The Anatomy of a Pummeled Life) very enriching and challenging. He describes the writing of his memoirs (Disparity: The Autobiography of a Man with a Hungry Heart) as anguishing, insight-enhancing, and cathartic. Peter, a seasoned author, has also described his venture into fiction writing as fun.

This literary fiction and non-fiction author and his wife Janice celebrated 58 years of marriage on October 30th. She is an accomplished artist and produced the cover of Peter’s most recent book, The Anatomy of a Pummeled Life. They recently returned to Western New York after ten years in Florida and are enjoying spending time with their son, Peter, an architect, and their daughter, Beth, a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, and their five grandchildren.
